HiSET - Lab and Prep Classes - High School Equivalency Test

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Students must score a 239 or higher on the Reading CASAS to qualify for HiSET: High School Equivalency Test.
The HiSET program offers an independent study lab which is open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday - Thursday. Lab instructors help students target lessons and activities that support their specific needs in the 5 subject areas: Math, Reading, Writing, Science, and Social Studies. Students not enrolled in a direct instruction class must attend the lab a minimum of 4 hours/week and take at least one official test in our Betty Outten Testing Center every 2 months, preceded by Official Practice Tests to determine readiness.
To support the other subject areas and test taking strategies, one-hour and mini-workshop sessions are offered each month during morning, afternoon, and/or night. The LBSA Activity Calendar will advertise workshops and mini-sessions. Additionally, LBCC offers classes on our campus for reading and math to boost skills.
It is the goal of our program for students to earn their HiSET Certificate in one school year (or less).
PROGRAM HOURS:
Independent Study Lab, Monday - Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday, Math 2, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
Our HiSET Preparation Program is free and students in good standing are able to participate in our graduation ceremony in June. Additionally, students qualify for the Long Beach Promise which provides 2 years for free at LBCC. There is a $200 fee to take the state HiSET exam to earn the CA Equivalency Certificate.
